Chasing Cancer
While "building a wall" has been the leading phrase for Donald Trump, Joe Biden has leaped into a more important topic that can potentially affect us all; building a cure for cancer. In his short article, "Biden Unveils Latest 'Cancer Moonshot' Ideas", Patrick Svitek of Texas Tribune, shares Biden's hopeful speech that was taken place in Houston, at Rice University. In his speech, Biden speaks about his awareness on an additional cancer treatment- clinical trials. He states, "Less than 5 percent of cancer patients in America choose to participate in clinical trials, often because they do not know much about them". Biden wants to increase access to clinical trials by educating the public about clinical trials. This article is important because cancer is taking away too many lives, and the traditional approach for treatment is extremely harsh on the human body. The only way to find cures for cancer is to find alternatives through research. Plus, clinical trials not only gives people other options; but also, it gives them more hope.

“Chasing Cancer” written by my colleague, Song Mayo, did an excellent job in presenting the article published by the Texas Tribune. She made a great introductory statement for her blog, that grasped my attention to continue reading her thoughts. I do believe her blog made valid statements that supported the short article about clinical trials for cancer treatment. I wished she would have provided more information such as the website for those who want to participate in a cancer clinical trial. However, with every pro theirs always a con. Clinical trials for these patients may not be the answers to all those who have cancer. We are all different, in the sense that our bodies can have different reactions with the trial medication. In addition, what if the patient is part of a standard treatment (placebo treatment) instead of an investigational. This would be devastating to those patients who are inputting their valuable time and not receiving the appropriate treatment.
